View Article  Discussion Boards

Here is today's rant.  Discussion Boards.

Don't you just love Internet discussion boards?  I'm a member of a few for different interests I'm involved in.  Discussion boards have a personality, the culture of the boards and people are like a whole different world.  Sometimes you wonder if people are grounded in reality.  I mean, people say things on a board the would not think of saying in person.  I used to run a large community site with a discussion board that had to be policed constantly.  It was like tall grade-school.   You had grown men and kids trying to communicate and it was hilarious.  And sometimes it was tenuous. But always interesting.

Today I was following up on some advice I gave someone on a buying decision and this other guy on the board was lording over everyone as if because he had more posts than everyone, he owned the board.

I simply reminded him, "know your audience".

People at times get so wound up on what THEY have to say instead of what they need to say.  It goes back to my quote of the day I posted on August 3rd.  Some people are honest.  Some people just want to be seen as being honest.

If more of us were concerned with getting from point A to point B instead of how you get there, we'd all be better off.   I don't have time for macho bullshit, and I certainly don't have time for people that suck up either.  Man or woman, the best thing you can do in my company is shoot straight.  Because one thing I learned from divorce... Follow your instinct.  It will never let you down.  God gave it to you for a reason.

Anyhow...  I just wanted to rant today.  I think discussion boards ...   more »

View Article  Stupid Headline of the Day - City Forecloses Mans Home Over Single Unpaid Parking Ticket

This is one of those beyond words situation. This isn't stupid, it's brutal and cruel. Oh... and consider the ticket was issued while his van was parked in his own driveway.

The Modern Rules of Men for Women

These are a set of rules, answers and instructions all women must abide by with their man.  You should have no problem memorizing them all as women have the capacity to never forget.

Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

We are not shallow because we are honest.  You only call us shallow because we are honest.

We know if we answer a question you'll just ask another.  That is why we leave the room.

We say we are sorry because we know you won't.

Jewelry is the stupidest thing a man can spend his money on.

We don't like shopping because we don't want to carry your bags.

We can't be what you want us to be because we still need to be deprogrammed from what our last girlfriend made us to be.

You can either ask us to do something or tell us how you want it done. Not both. If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.

Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one: Subtle hints do not work! Strong hints do not work! Obvious hints do not work! Just say it!

Yes, and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.

View Article  Lars' Video Pick of the Day: Half in Love Half in Hate - Morten Harket

Seems after writing my article the other day about the thin line between love and hate... It seems only right I post this video as a feature. It is Half in Love Half in Hate by Morten Harket.  You may know him as the voice of A-ha.  Now before you write this song off as tripe.  Don't.  A-ha may have been a one hit wonder here in the U.S. but this is an astounding band very much appreciated back in their home in the north of Europe.

Years ago one of the dreams I shared with my wife was to see this band live in the cold of Norway.  It is so far removed from the typical U.S. stadium style concerts.  You can imagine embracing the one you love for warmth while enjoying the music in the snow and ice.   Watching this video you'll see Morten's breath hitting the cold air.  One day I may realize my strange and peculiar dream of standing in front of this band holding onto someone worthwhile.  Until then, it's a fond thought.

WHY MOSTLY PHOTOS OF LARS?
The answer is simple. It's to protect my friends privacy. I'm not a narcessist. LOL

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Lars Hindsley is a self-employed single full time father, a writer, a non conservative Republican, a reformed idealist (a compromisationalist), ex-musician, God fearing cynic that could more easily be described in two words as a "Rugged Intellectual".

Lars writings range from "how to" articles to commentaries and advice. You'll find movie reviews and video picks of the day side by side with serious writings.

Lars offers perspective from an Anglo-Christian moral position while never lording over anyone unlike himself. Lars is of the opinion that if you are going to complain, you should offer a solution. His perspective on the world is that many of us fight societal evolution to frustrating ends without a genuine understanding of what it is we are all up against.

Reading his articles should provide you with positive energy towards living out your day. You may not be able to change the world but you can navigate it to live a rich and rewarding life. Enjoy Lars’ works, there are years of writings to choose from.
