So now I know what it is.
It seems over the past couple years I've had a small bone growth on my foot. Not unlike arthritis which grows in the joints. This was not in a joint. It actually surfaced on my talar bone. It didn't hurt, or doesn't hurt. Well, sometimes, depending on what shoe I wear.
It has a name even. A talar beak. A talar beak is a bone growth which is normal I'm told. After x-rays, I learned that a beak like formation can commonly occur on your talar bone.
I thought I had a ganglion cyst at first. However my doctor told me it absolutely was not a ganglion. After all, ganglions are very hard like bone I've read. But this did not move and it was not between or on any tendons.
So, if you are out there googling lumps on your foot, or bumps on your foot or even cysts on your foot, I've found out that a ganglion cyst is can be confused for a talar beak. In both cases you can have them surgically removed. I experience some redness and mild irritation from time to time. I may have to do something about it.
In any event, mystery solved.
