From year to year I write a little something about Valentines Day.  For some history on Valentine's Day, Read: The History of Saint Valentine's Day.

If you are going to celebrate Valentine's Day with a loved one, you first need to examine your heart.   Are you in love?  Are you dating?  Are you married?  Hopefully you are not having an affair.

How do you want to celebrate it?  Perhaps you are limited on how you can celebrate it. And frankly, this is how you should approach it if you want to come at it with a deeper affection.

If you are going out to dinner, you needed to plan this day well in advance.  Do NOT expect to get into a restaurant without a reservation on Valentine's Day.  This is a man's duty, so please guys... don't let me down here.

As for you women... men deserve affection too.  I wrote an article years ago about how to buy flowers for men.   Ladies, you really need to read this article: Giving a man flowers?  Here is your guide to giving a man flowers. I firmly believe that if you both really important to each other... a woman will give just as much thought to her man as he does to her.  If this is true, ladies... you want to send you man flowers on Valentine's Day.  If you are going to send him flowers... then read my article above for some great male perspective.

I've been checking my stats on the blog and my article Giving a man Flowers has been getting a strong amount of hits running up to Valentine's Day.  It's good to know someone is searching this subject and it bears relevance to many.

Then there are movies...  If you arrive back home to cuddle up to a movie... I have a few I'd like to offer up.  I wrote two articles on this subject: Best Romantic Movies for Valentine's Day and The Best Romantic Movies ever made and not just for Valentine's Day.

For you women... here is some fun advice for Valentine's Day: Top 10 Mistakes Most Women Make with Men

For you men, here is some help with table manners should you go to dinner with your lady: Men's Advice - Dining with women while Dating.

Now if your Valentine's doesn't go well, put it in perspective. For instance, years ago I posted this on Valentine's Day...

Today I got nothing for Valentines.  Yet  I still love my wife, I'm still in love with my wife and I still work hard every day to make her happy.  Or should I say, help her be and feel happy.  Superman has jack shit on me.  To every man out there that tows the line.  Superman has nothing on you.  Being a man is twenty times harder than being a woman no matter what they try and have you believe.  You need to do it all and still be at peace with yourself.  Yes my wife birthed a child and I can never know that feeling but NO man would say they wouldn't do that for a child or love. As far as I'm concerned women are lucky that only they can give birth.  We men would appreciate the experience all as much.

Today I got nothing for Valentines.  I reflect on this as a fact.  I note it as something that 'is'.  But I would like to think that men deserve amazing efforts and acts in romance as an equal expectation. The idealist in me now steps back to reality.  I need to go drop off my wife's roses at work.

Men or women... be careful not to have this one day bend your feelings into something worse.  It is only one day of the year.  Some people are not truly romantic, or they just fall into a relationship and that is good enough for them.  If your husband, wife or boyfriend is coming home to you every night... you should take solace in that alone. Some people have no one.
