UPDATE: 11:30 AM January 28, 2008...
News travels fast... Since posting this article last night... things have changed... Read the article link blow in my original post, then come back and read this link: http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23434386-details/Free+music+downloads+site+in+chaos+as+record+giants+pull+out/article.do
This free music plan, may live a short life...
ORIGINAL ARTICLE BODY
This is brand new folks. Free downloadable music embraced by the recording industry.
It started at midnight tonight. I'm just getting rolling with it myself so I can't offer a full review other to say it operates as other standard peer-to-peer file sharing networks.
NO Adware, no spyware, no kidding. Totally legal.
I'm happy to say the ipod folks out there are hosed for now. And let's face it you Ipod drones... you got screwed. You pay as much as a buck for a song and can only use it five devices? And it has to be Itunes! What a joke. Thank God Ipod doesn't truly dominate the market.
So to all you folks that didn't buy into the hype and know that your own MP3 or media players offer you more freedom.... you just got Christmas early.
For years I've either encoded my own music or paid for songs at sites like www.mp3fiesta.com. I could put twenty bucks in and it would last me months for downloads, but I still paid. This is the first time I will use peer-to-peer. Heck I know women that use peer-to-peer and I haven't! School teachers to lawyers... so many people stealing tunes.... this ends it all.
Here is an early article on the service: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/music/article3261591.ece
You'll need to download the software and then get rolling. Here:http://www.qtrax.com/download.php
So what is it? It is Qtrax. Read the article above for the how and why. But it is for real.
While I don't think that Qtrax will have everything I want, I will be happy to pick up a lot of new music for free.
Have fun folks.
