Skating On Wet Bricks at Bethesda Fountain

Built in 1859, Bethesda Fountain is designed Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux. The sculpture in Bethesda Fountain came shortly after by Emma Stebbins. She named her center peice Angel of the Waters (out of shot to left in the fountain).

Never skate at Bethesda Fountain in the rain. You could kill yourself. I'm serious. While I'm laughing in this photo... it was some scary stuff. It's like skating on slime. You ever step on a slimy rock in bare feet in a creek? Imagine that and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Meanwhile some friends skating along snapped a couple of me hoping to see me take a tumble. You'll notice I've already played softball and one knee pad is down as I'm trying to get my wound to dry up. Even the weather was out to get me. :)

The good news was that the rain didn't last. Just a few minutes with the sun still shining.

This is a popular place for tourist and locals and everyone for that matter. You can catch a show, feed the ducks or people watch. I caught two weddings today, a show and I had a fleet of kids with me mooching my oatmeal cookies as I fed the ducks. Apparrently chicks dig guys with kids around them. LOL

I had to meet up in Union Square after a day in Central Park... I could have come straight down 8th Avenue off Columbus Circle but I just had to skate through Times Square. I caught a quick photo while at it.

FYI, ever seen photos of couples in Central Park with rows of trees on both sides? This the place. The Mall connect to this circle. The movie cover to Autumn in New York comes to mind. ...Yeah that is what I was thinking while I was skating here. LOL

Driveway of Death!

LOL, I call this driveway the driveway of death because a friend busted her ass and was laid up for two days in bed because of falling at the gutter. In retaliation to this nasty gutter I've begun practicing for barrel jumping, by jumping it. Funny thing is I did in fact fall myself on my very first jump in this photo session. I caught some of the sand in the gutter and it brought me right down. I tried to twist and spin around to fall my knee pads but only managed to land on my side. I bruised my side up bad but got up and skated my daily skate anyway. I returned later and got this photo out of spite to this driveway of death! LOL

For any of you that think any good skater doesn't fall, you are kidding yourself. I have friends that are amazing skaters and still have some nasty cuts and bruises. If you don't fall, you are not trying to do something. It just comes with the territory. Meanwhile I am getting better...

We couldn't have asked for a better summer day to skate in Central Park. I was told I should write an article about the whole day but really, who cares about the nutty or off the wall things we saw in New York on any summer day. Bottom line, is it was a great day with a lot of great memories. Read my article on Skating in Central Park if you really think you may want to spend a day in the park.

Yes, I know I wear the same shorts and tank top almost every time I go to Central Park. I wear these shorts because I can drop my camera in shorts and still skate around.
