Today March 31st was Canal Little League's Field Day where all the parents and team managers and coaches worked on the fields. I brought my lawn tractor and spend most to the day driving it around from cutting grass to dragging the field.

This was an amazing day. After getting to know so many of these kids, and the parents too, it felt so good to see things come together. Matt hit a bunt for a triple! Declan struck out the side! Alex hit a double to the fence! We stole home 7 times!

And Dalton even made it to the game with his grandmother! He ran out at the last second and walked into the team photo because he just felt so much a part of what Dad and Declan are a part of here. I couldn't tell him no. :)

I have to say that this experience has been on of the single most best things to every happen for me. Volunteering has brought so much back to me, and I never expected it. I really love working with the kids, my son is making great friends, he gets invited to sleep overs, the parents bring their kids to our house, and I've made friends with a lot of families ...God I hope it is not because I'm the coach! I really am finding so much friendship in this league it is amazing. Declan and I spend a lot of time at the fields when we are not playing too. I've got a good friendship started with three of the 8 coaches in the league and I think the most touching thing about all this is that my home answering machine is working overtime for all the calls we get from so many great new people in our life. At team photo's night we did our own team photos too. Each player had a forground shot with the team in the background. This one of course was Declans. I forgot to get one with Dalton!

This year wouldn't be have as much fun without the acceptance these guys offered me to this little fraternity. We all want to win games against each other, but I have never felt the least bit uncomfortable around them before during or after a game. I can honestly say we all liked each other during this season and I won't easily forget it.
