View Article  Lars Recommends: The Mannahatta Project
Did you know Manhattan (Mannahatta) wasn't always an island? Harlem River was redirected in order to accomplish making Manhattan an island. Or that everything beyond Canal Street used to be underwater?  I did.  But now you can see what it looked like before every sky scraper was raised or every inhabitant was squeezed out by progress.  http://themannahattaproject.org/  The interactive map is a fun tool you'll find quite interesting.

How did Manhattan get's it's name?  The Lenape Indians are responsible for its name Manahachtanienk which became altered in translation by white men; Mannahtta. That word came to mean island of many hills.   I can attest to this and if you live or ever been through Harlem, you know it too.  I skated through Harlem from Central Park to a Yankees game in the Bronx.  I felt like I was in San Francisco they were so broad and steep.

In reality there are more detailed sites of New York.  You could try The Forgotten New York site which is both culturally relevant in today's world as much as it is the great distant past.

Today I get to recommend my own site! I'd like to officially announce the Delaware Skate Club.   If you have any interest in socially networking with other inline skaters in Delaware; please visit DelawareSkaters.com where the site redirects to our club location using the social networking site MeetUp.com

As founder of the Delaware Skate Club, my interest is in helping expose the recreation of inline skates to people that are fearful of learning or would like to skate with a group and have no one to skate with.

We will skate through Delaware locations at Bear Park and city skates through Newark, Wilmington and other locations where we skate to a destination as a group, enjoy some social time and then back to our starting point.   Each skate can last from 40 minutes to 3 hours.

Another activity will be field trips or road trips to skate with other groups such as the Philly and New York skate groups.

We are already getting some support from the local community from Troop 2, the YMCA and various other businesses which have helped with FREE signs to post throughout the area.  I hope you'll show up and skate with us.

View Article  Lars Recommends: DrunkRepublic.com
This article at DrunkRepublic.com is hilarious.

It's not safe for kids/children and not safe for work due to the content and a suggestive graphic.

Do not visit this link if you have children around or are at work and it would put your job at risk.

However, it is a tongue in cheek article that is really very funny.

It's about a guy that decided to start his own pet project of playing games with his credit card.

This site has been around a few years and has grown considerably.

It's not really the site that has grown.  It's the organization.

It's a great place to meet people LIKE YOU of the opposite sex, and the same sex.  Great friends can and will be made here.  Oh... and of course you get to excercise those muscles and work those bones.

I'm digging this!  If you are ready to take your fitness to the next level, this is it.  It's a varied fitness program focusing on true fitness, not stacks of equipment and body building.  This will prep you properly for biathlons, triathlons etc...  Tactical police operations to elderly participate.  You don't just train, you learn skills.

Just don't get caught up in the hype.  Use it, don't live it.

This is the best product search engine I've used.   Searching things from, "square cut trunks" to "inline skates" to "blank cds" it really rounds things up from many sources.

What is really good is that even when on a site like let's say Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, or Bergdorf Goodman, it will find products in their catalog that are not even listed withing the specific sites searches.

Check out http://www.thefind.com and test it out on some obscure product of your own liking.  I'm sure this will be your google of shopping engines.

View Article  Best of Craig's List

You know... every now and again I find myself with a minute of down time.  Could be at the YMCA waiting on someone to give up a weight set where for some reason they offer Internet access in the gym room ...It could be in town waiting on a client where thankfully I can pick up someone's insecure network for surfing myself, or simply waiting in line at the bank where I'll dial up the web on my PDA.   You can't do much in terms of productivity, what do you do?  Read the best of Craig's list for a laugh.  Take for instance this post about how to decode women's personal ads:

Ø 40-ish..................................49.
Ø Adventurous..........................Slept with everyone.
Ø Athletic................................No breasts.
Ø Average looking.....................Moooo.
Ø Beautiful..............................Pathological liar.
Ø Emotionally Secure..................On medication.
Ø Feminist...............................Fat.
Ø Free Spirit.................................Junkie.
Ø Friendship first.......................Former Slut.
Ø New-Age.........................Body hair in the wrong places.
Ø Old-fashioned........................No B.J.'s
Ø Open-minded.........................Desperate.
Ø Outgoing..............................Loud and embarrassing.
Ø Professional................. ..........Bitch.
Ø Voluptuous...........................Very fat.
Ø Large frame...........................Hugely fat.
Ø Wants soul mate.....................Stalker.

Going back to 2006 there is this gem, the Craig's List Salary Guide:

Less than $30,000 = Loser! Put down the videogames, take a shower, and move out of your mom's house.

$31,000 - $50,000 = Cool. You're alright with me man. I hear you.

$51,000 - $70,000 = You're suspect pal. You're on my list. What are you some kind of smart person who learned how to do computers or something? My girlfriend is way hotter than yours.

$71,000 - $90,000 = Must be nice to come from a rich family who paid for your eduction. Epp epp! Zip it. I don't want to hear about how clever you are. You're a xxxking tool. Fucking bitch is what you are. Goddamn daddy's girl who never had to ...   more »

You know I write movie reviews, interview artist and of course have video of the day on occasion.  Here is my latest... Recommending sites you may or may not have heard of.   I'd like to offer up as my first recommended link a fun site that pokes fun at my "positive energy" approach.

Today I recommend: http://www.despair.com

There is some real laugh aloud stuff at despair.com as well as some podcasts. I think the must have item is their "glass is half empty mug".  When you find it and read it, you'll get how funny and worthwhile having one is. :)  They should be paying me for this.
